OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission is proud to announce that the U. S. Department of Labor has named the OESC Appellate division as their 2001 Region IV Best Overall Performer in the Appeals category. This is the second consecutive year that the division has won this award and the fifth time overall. The division received the award in 1986, 1987, 1995 and 2000.

The Region IV Best Overall Performer award is presented based on lower authority appeals performance between April 1, 2001 and March 31, 2002. A team of state and regional appeals staff selected and agreed upon the award criteria. The two criteria used to judge performance are appeals time lapse, or the length of time to process and clear appeals, and quality of service. Oklahoma’s dedication to fully processing appeals cases within thirty days paid off in the appeals time lapse category, where the OESC Appellate division clears over 96% of its cases. The division received the highest score in the region on both clearing appeals within thirty days and appeals time lapse in general. Oklahoma was also one of only five states to receive a perfect score on quality of appeals.

“Serving the people of Oklahoma is a privilege,” stated OESC Appellate Division Director Karl Jahnke. “This award recognizes the success of our Appellate Staff and Administrative Hearing Officers in meeting the USDOL performance standards that measure that service in terms of efficiency and quality.  I’m proud and happy for all our staff.  They have worked very hard dealing with the increasing case load this past year and it’s nice to see that effort applauded.”

Oklahoma is a Region IV member along with Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, New Mexico, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission offers many services to Oklahoma job-seekers and employers including employment services, unemployment insurance, job training assistance, veterans employment services, and labor market information.
